Evelyn Diana Plitman - My visit to the Czech Republic
On the dates from May 8, 2023, to May 17, 2023, I was visiting the organisation "Slezska Diakonie" in the Czech Republic.
During these days, I had the opportunity to see and explore the different services that the organisation offers. It was very interesting to see how the Diakonie is working in a different country with the background that I work now at the Diaconia in Latvia and have some experience with the German Diaconia. Comparing the organisations and the services gave me fruitful thoughts and new ideas for my own work.
Throughout the exchange, I met many different people from the organisation. Workers from the offices, people from the practice in the centers like me, workers from different cities, different work fields, and volunteers from different countries. Meeting so many new people with such different backgrounds was a great enrichment for me. Learning about their experiences at work but also getting to know different world views was the best and most important part of the exchange for me.
Due to the variety of services that "Slezska Diakonie" provides, I could not only compare the service that I work in but also learn about services that I had never dealt with before. From those services, I could take something for my own work as well.
I am especially thankful for the hospitality that I received, and I am looking forward to being there again.
